7 May 2025, Kuala Lumpur – The Clinical Investigation Centre (CIC) at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PMCC), Canada, during an official visit coordinated by Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM). The visit comes at a timely juncture, as CIC is actively laying the groundwork to establish its own Phase I Unit, with the aim of enhancing its capacity in early-phase and First-in-Human (FIH) research.
The PMCC delegation comprised:
- Ms. Jennifer Li, Quality Manager, Cancer Clinical Research Unit (CCRU)
- Mr. Horace Wong, Assistant Manager, BRAS Drug Development Program
- Mr. Anthony Msan, Clinical Study and Regulatory Specialist II
This professional engagement provided a valuable platform for both institutions to exchange knowledge, share institutional progress, and discuss operational strategies related to early-phase clinical research. CIC had the opportunity to showcase its current development initiatives and future direction, while gaining perspective from PMCC’s robust experience in managing early-phase and oncology-focused trials.
The CIC team was especially impressed by the sophistication, efficiency, and structure of PMCC’s clinical research setup. The delegation generously shared insights on workflow optimization, team structures, and quality management many of which will be thoughtfully considered as CIC refines its operational model in preparation for Phase I trials and also for the existing trials.
This visit also served to reaffirm CIC’s commitment to quality, innovation, and global collaboration as it works to elevate its early-phase research capabilities to meet international standards.
